Images & layers

Add, duplicate, reorder and delete the image and video layers on your canvas from the Layers panel.

A layer is an image (or a video) on the canvas — the thing you generate from and edit. You manage layers from the Layers panel in the sidebar.

When to use

  • You want to add images to your board, or arrange and clean up the ones already there.

Add an image

  • Drag an image file onto the canvas, paste one, or use the upload button. Common formats work (PNG, JPG, WEBP); large files are compressed on upload.
  • Video layers are created by generating a video with the video compositor — you can’t drop a video file straight onto the canvas. See Turn images into video.

Arrange & clean up

  • Duplicate, reorder and delete layers from the Layers panel.
  • Toggle a layer’s visibility and adjust its opacity.
  • Deletion is smart: a shared image is only removed from storage when no other layer still uses it.

Colour-code your layers

Right-click a layer in the Layers panel and pick a colour to tag it. Use tags to cluster layers that belong together — options versus finals, one façade versus another — so you can find them at a glance in a long list.

A tagged layer shows its colour in four places:

  • a tint across its card in the Layers panel,
  • the bar down the left of the card when it’s selected,
  • the outline around its thumbnail when the sidebar is collapsed,
  • and on the canvas, as the layer’s selection outline and name label.

Colours are saved with the project, so they’re still there when you come back. To clear one, right-click and choose No colour, or click the colour it already has.

Tips

  • Reorder layers to control which one sits on top where they overlap.
  • Duplicate a layer before a big edit so you always have the original to fall back on.
