Generate an image

Type a prompt, set your model and options on the prompt bar, and press Generate to render a new image as a layer on the canvas.

Generating an image comes down to one flow: type what you want in the prompt bar, tune a few controls, and press Generate. The result arrives as a new layer on your canvas.

When to use

  • You have a base image, sketch, or CAD export selected and want to render a version of it.
  • You want to try a different model, resolution, or style on the same scene.
  • You want several variations of one idea in a single click.

Steps

  1. Select a scene, layer, or frame on the canvas so the prompt bar knows what to render from.
  2. Type your prompt in the text field. Describe the result you want. Press Enter to generate, or Shift+Enter for a new line.
  3. Pick a model from the Model picker (to the left of the Generate button).
  4. Set your options — resolution, seed, batch count, and style — using the controls described below. All are optional; sensible defaults are already in place.
  5. Press Generate (the round arrow button on the far right). A spinner shows while the render runs; the finished image lands as a new layer.

The prompt-bar controls

Prompt input — the main text field. Leave it empty and press Generate to trigger an auto-suggested prompt built from the selected image; the suggested text appears in the field (with a Regenerate option) for you to review, edit, and generate. See Design Mode for the guided, step-by-step version. Type your own text and it takes over.

Model picker — opens a list of your favorite models. INTERSTITIAL offers FLUX.2 (Klein, Dev, Pro, Max), Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2, and Seedream 5.0 Pro. Each row shows its price; models whose cost scales with resolution are marked with a ~ — hover the price for a per-resolution breakdown. The recommended model carries a small sparkle. Use Manage models to check or uncheck which models appear in your shortlist (keep at least one). On the Blueprint plan, models outside the free set show a lock and open an upgrade prompt; allowed models show how many free generations remain. See Plans & Credits for what each model costs.

Resolution & aspect ratio — open the Settings gear. Here you set Width × Height (or tick Match Scene to lock output to your scene image’s dimensions), plus any model-specific options like aspect ratio, quality, or guidance. A live per-image cost badge updates as you change settings. Use the reset arrow to return to defaults.

Seed — open the Seed popover (lock icon). A seed is the random starting point for a render. Lock it to reproduce or iterate on a specific result; leave it unlocked for fresh variation each time. You can type a value or hit Generate Random Seed.

Batch — the small number at the Generate button’s top-right corner. Tap it to render several variations at once. The available range depends on the model. On Blueprint, the batch control is available only for the models included in your plan; other models are locked to a single image.

Preset styles — the palette icon (shown when a layer is selected). Pick a style to insert its prompt text into your field. The inserted text is fully editable afterward.

Frames — from the canvas Add element (+) menu you can drop an empty render target at a chosen aspect ratio: 1:1 (square), plus 16:9, 4:3, and 3:2 in landscape or portrait. Draw or sketch on a frame, then generate to compose an image from scratch without a base photo. See Frames.

Blueprint cooldown — on the Blueprint plan, a countdown timer appears next to Generate when you’re between free-generation cycles. Generation resumes when it reaches zero.

How Generate resolves

  • With a prompt and a selection, INTERSTITIAL renders from the selected scene, layer, or frame using your chosen model and settings.
  • With an empty prompt, it first auto-suggests a prompt from the selected image (see Design Mode) and fills it into the field for you.
  • With a batch count above one, it fans out multiple renders and drops each as its own layer.
  • Credits are deducted only after a render succeeds — a failed slot doesn’t cost you.

See how an image was made

Every image on the canvas has a small chevron beneath it. Click it to open the image’s info panel:

  • For a generated image: the model used, the prompt it was rendered from, and the image’s resolution.
  • For an upscaled image: the resolution plus the upscale settings — scale factor, creativity, HDR and resemblance.
  • For an image you uploaded: just the resolution, since there’s no prompt or model behind it.

Resolution is the image’s true pixel size, not how big it looks on the canvas — so it doesn’t change when you resize the image on the board.

Tips

  • Start with the recommended model (the one with the sparkle) if you’re unsure — it suits most projects.
  • Lock the seed when you like a result and want to nudge the prompt without losing the composition.
  • Match Scene keeps a render aligned to your existing image’s dimensions — handy for edits that need to sit exactly over the original.
  • A short, concrete prompt usually beats a long vague one. Say the material, light, and mood.
